In an effort to better serve the Asian American community, Asian American Times (AAT) announces its alliance with Asian American Public Policy Institute (AAPPI), a non-profit organization comprises of Asian American community leaders and organizations across California and the U.S. Congressman Mike Honda will inaugurate the event and will be the keynote speaker.

"AAPPI has been representing the Asian American communities on a wide spectrum of issues and for some time we were monitoring several publications and their purpose for the community. We look for contents and its significance on the issues affecting Asian Americans," said Kim Singh, Executive Director of AAPPI. "We chose Asian American Times as it focuses on issues and it features a lot of significant subjects concerning Asian Americans," he explained.

Concurrently, Asian American Times will be also endorsed by AAPPI as the official publication for the Asian American community. Asian American Times covers a lot of issues on numerous topics such as the affirmative action, transforming race, hate crimes, discrimination, stereotypes, media representation, and more.

"This collaboration will be a great opportunity for us to develop and establish a closer relationship with the community," said Fely Santiago, Publisher of Asian American Times.

AAT and AAPPI will work together to promote issues which are vital and beneficial for the community. Presently, AAPPI is producing numerous projects on issues like the public policy, advocacy, electoral politics, education, workplace, AIDS action, and human rights. AAT will support and co-sponsor all these projects.

The launching reception will be held on July 4 at the Mayflower Restaurant in Milpitas. Event will start at 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Asian American community leaders from various organizations, as well as various government officials will be present.

In conjunction with the celebration of the Independence Day, a Flag Project will be also presented during the event. Flag Project is a collaboration between AAPPI and 80/20, another non-profit organization. This project aims to counter the perception that Asian Americans are foreigners in this country. With this, Asian American families and businesses will be encouraged to fly the American flag this Fourth of July.
